Join us for a very special concert to celebrate The Festival Chorus’ 60th anniversary!
Join The Festival Chorus in celebrating our 60th season anniversary with one of our most eclectic concerts yet!
This event will be extra special as we are performing with the internationally-touring Vancouver Chamber Choir, lead by the illustrious Jon Washburn!
This concert will feature over 400 years of music spanning: classical favourites, World & Canadian folk arrangements, and contemporary masterworks. Each choir will present signature works representative of each of their vast repertoires.
The Vancouver Chamber Choir will perform an eclectic selection of virtuoso a capella masterworks including J. S, Bach’s joyous Lobet den Herrn (Praise the Lord), Claude Debussy’s sensuous Trois Chansons, Benjamin Britten’s atmospheric Hymn to St. Cecilia, and Jon Washburn’s own immensely popular arrangement of Afro-American spirituals,
Rise! Shine!
The Festival Chorus (with Artistic Director, Mel Kirby, and Pianist, Colleen Athparia)
will also perform a diverse program including Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, which was featured in our very first concert in 1959!
To cap things off, both choruses will join voices in Jon Washburn’s arrangement of A Stephen Foster Medley featuring beloved favorites, Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair, Beautiful Dreamer, and Oh, Susanna.
We are also excited to welcome participants in our community workshop which will total almost 100 voices.
This incomparable afternoon will take place at the city’s newest, state-of-the art performance space: The Bella Concert Hall. Our last concert sold out so please don’t miss out on this celebration of music and community.
